As far as one can tell, and quickly perusing the various building and architecture websites online The Westminster on 66th and Third avenue doesn’t appear to share the same pedigree as it’s neighbor The Manhattan House across the street. However, in an effort to show a side by side comparison of the modernist / international style of white brick apartment buildings 165 east 66th is obviously a nice companion to The Manhattan House, albeit slightly different. The Westminster has a plain unadorned façade, corner units have recessed rather than cantilevered balconies and the top few floors have setback with generous terraces for the units. The base of The Westminster sits firmly on the ground with a relatively small entrance on 66th street rather than having the more open plan of the Manhattan House.
The Manhattan House definitely abides more rigidly to the modernist international style, while The Westminster and surrounding buildings borrow stylistic elements and adapt them more to maximize the development of the site.
